6:00 am
When at home, I usually wake up between 6:30-7am. A great perk about working from home is the flexibility in wake-up time and freedom in wardrobe (sometimes dress is still required, but other times I get to wear my sweatpants all day!). From about 7-7:30am or so I take a walk and try to get in some outdoors time before starting the day at my desk. Spending time outside makes me happy and helps me become more awake so I am ready to conquer the day!
8:00 am
Once arriving back home, I usually make coffee and open my laptop around 8am. I start to go through my email and check my teams’ messages to make sure nothing came through overnight that is pressing. Normally, there are a couple of follow-ups I need to take care of. My first call of the day will take place around this time, but it varies depending on the day and task at hand.
10:00 am
I am currently on a PI project essentially within the PMO, so these stand-ups are crucial to us staying on track with each initiative we are working on.
Our daily team standup occurs in the morning where we all share and go through project updates, action items, concerns, and what to expect for the day. After our stand-up, my day gets busier as I have a list of items to take care of for the day.
12:00 pm
These are days when everyone goes into the office and different people (MD’s, Directors, Managers, etc.) teach us about a new topic (modeling, discussing past projects, lessons learned, etc.)
I try to take time for lunch anywhere between 11:30-1. Sometimes when I am at home I go into our office where we host lunch and learns every other Friday. I really enjoy these because it is nice to see what my colleagues have worked on and better understand their own expertise (free lunch also never hurts, Taco Deli is currently the office favorite).
1:00 pm
Post lunch, my inbox fills up since my client is currently on the west coast. I work through getting updates I need from my team members and scheduling the appropriate meetings for the client.
2:00 pm
I oversee putting together a weekly presentation for the private equity company and the port-co in which we discuss project initiatives and updates.
I spend the majority of the afternoon working on project related tasks (could be anything ranging from putting together quotes, scheduling additional meetings, hopping on a call with a team member to work through something, or working in PowerPoint). It is my job to acquire all the information and compile it into a presentation, so I spend a lot of my time chasing people down to get what I need. Due to this, I am currently presented with the unique opportunity to interact daily with the MD, CIO (on the client side), Director, and Manager of the project.
4:00 pm
I usually get off my last call around this time and check in with my team members to see if there are any action items, they need from me before the day is over. Once I am off my calls and have confirmation from my team, I usually shut my laptop for the day any time between 5- 6.
7:00 pm
Post work I almost always find myself leaving my apartment to go see my friends, play some tennis / pickleball, or heading to try a new restaurant. If I receive a notification, I will check my outlook or teams and make sure there is nothing urgent. If there is something that comes up, I will work on it as soon as my plans allow, but usually it is something that can be taken care of the next morning.
