Mr. Newsom brings more than two decades of engineering, project management, and program leadership experience with corporates and government agencies.

New York, June 4, 2024 — Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the appointment of Rosco Newsom as an Aerospace, Defense, Aviation and Space (ADAS) practice Managing Director within the firm’s Private Equity Performance Improvement Group (PEPI). The addition of Mr. Newsom, who specializes in operations planning, transaction services, digital solutions, and corporate strategy, underlines A&M’s ongoing commitment to the ADAS sector and the practice’s talent growth strategy.

Mr. Newsom advises clients across the aerospace and defense, space and government services sectors. His significant track record with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, BAE Systems, and sovereign wealth funds spans domestic assignments and international engagements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, London and Greece. Mr. Newsom’s functional expertise, hands-on industry insights and operational/engineering perspectives, provide him a fluency across government and industry issues that translates into value creation opportunities for clients.

Mr. Newsom’s hire underscores A&M’s strategy of integrating recognized industry thought leaders to enhance its bench strength. Following on recent ADAS hires of Managing Directors Mike Oakley and Pablo Wangerman and Senior Director Joseph Perovich, Mr. Newsom’s joining furthers A&M’s ability to help sector clients optimize value and deliver results in a complex and changing environment.

Mr. Newsom’s notable assignments include work on F-35 Joint Strike Fighter sustainment affordability, DDG 51-class guided missile destroyer cost reduction, and military satellite communications (MilSatCom) microelectronics manufacturing improvements. Most recently, he led space-related engagements in the Middle East on topics including commercial space station viability, low earth orbit positioning, navigation and timing (LEO-PNT) solution development, and interplanetary spaceflight cooperation. Additionally, Mr. Newsom has worked with industrial products, power & utility, oil & gas, and healthcare clients.

James Marceau, a PEPI Managing Director and ADAS Practice Leader, noted Mr. Newsom’s blend of technical and operational expertise along with his mix of private sector and government agency engagement experience, “Rosco’s background embodies the important collaboration between government and industry. As the urgency to enhance capability, innovation, and time to delivery, in support of combatant commanders and war fighters, continues to grow so too will this collaboration. Our clients require operational expertise and process optimization vision to flex and appropriately calibrate production volume and mix in accordance with market demand and changing geo-political concerns. Rosco’s expertise will help clients build lean and resilient organizations that can adapt to an unpredictable environment while delivering on expected outcomes.”

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Newsom served as a Principal / Partner with EY-Parthenon’s Advanced Manufacturing & Mobility group. In that role, he maintained a portfolio of business strategy, transaction services, and technology-related projects focused on military platform readiness, government services, and sustainable aviation fuel. Additionally, he also held the role of ‘Office Leader’ driving diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and creating learning and development opportunities for personnel.

Mr. Newsom earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from UCLA Anderson School of Business. In addition, he earned certificates in aerospace program management from California Institute of Technology and business analytics from Harvard University.
